Tech company Line is continuing its foray into cryptocurrencies. Today it announced the launch of a $10 million investment fund, to be operated by Line’s Korean blockchain subsidiary, Unblock Corporation. The fund, called Unblock Ventures, will have a starting capital pool of $10 million, focused on early-stage startup investments. Line is one of the first publically traded companies to create a dedicated crypto investment fund, with the stated objective of boosting “the development and adoption of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology”. The company did not elaborate further on its investment interests. This is Line’s second step into the crypto space, after it launched its BitBox exchange in July. While the crypto trading platform is yet to be made available in Japan and the US, Line has big plans for the service, including integrating it with its messaging apps, similarly to its payments solution, LINE Pay.
