Standard Chartered Bank has hired Martijn De Jong as its global head of Digital Channels & Data. Signapore-based De Jong will be responsible for leading the Transaction Banking division’s digital and innovation agenda, which the bank has defined as one of its top priorities. Prior to his new role, De Jong was chief digital officer for insurance giant Aegon and he has also held simialr roles at various telecoms, including Vodafone. The bank’s recent digital transaction banking initiatives include collaborations with Siemens Financial Services and TradeIX for a blockchain-based trade finance proposition, as well as a partnership with Ant financial on a blockchain-based cross-border remittance service.  However, the growth of its digital banking projects has led to a reduction in headcount in some of its international offices.
