Singapore Launches Cloud Education and Funding Initiative for SMEs
Singapore has unveiled a new capability development programme to help SMEs build cloud-native applications. The new, state-funded GoCloud programme will help small and medium-sized enterprise suppliers to re-architect traditional monolithic software or build new, containerised applications.
The programme is structured as a set of training courses, delivered by service providers, who will be appointed by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in 2019. The courses will also give suppliers the tools and knowledge to build a DevOps culture within their applications, harness automation tools to speed up application delivery and leverage cloud platform to scale their operations and expand into new markets.
The end goal is to help small and medium tech suppliers – such as IT service providers – to rebuild or turn their applications into cloud native software within a few months. To aid in this endeavour, expert coaches will also be on hand to guide suppliers on specific projects. IMDA is backing up this knowledge sharing initiative with funding, offering to back “eligible projects” for up to 50% of development costs.
