Atlanta-based Kobiton, a mobile testing platform which enables developers to test apps on real devices, has raised $5.2m in series A funding. The round was led by Luxembourg-based BIP Capital, with participation from Kinetic Ventures, KMS Technology and Kobiton CEO Kevin Lee.

Kobiton launched in 2016 as a spin-out from KMS Technology’s incubator, Upstar Labs, which also founded software testing company QASymphony. The platform provides its customers – which include technology consultancy Capgemini – with a cloud-based lab and the ability to set up private and local labs as required.

According to Kobiton, the funds from this round will be used to enhance the record and playback feature of its platform, which enables users to record test scripts and play them back on hundreds of other devices to identify anomalies. Kobiton will also use the investment to expand its sales, marketing, customer support and product development.

“We’re expanding our offering with Record & Playback, the first mobile scriptless automation capability, to help organisations make the jump to automation,” said Lee, CEO. “This investment validates our momentum and accelerates go-to-market for our new AI scriptless Appium automation technology.”
