The Bank of England has released details of its new testing standards for ATM, and other machines that need to recognise its banknotes. The new standards, which include testing for counterfeit notes, were introduced in July and can be read here . Manufacturers need to transition to the new standards if they want to be part of the Bank of England’s framework for approving ATMs, which will be tested on a regular basis by the Bank. The Bank of England publishes a monthly list of dels of cash machines and software versions that meets its standards, which businesses can  use to make buying decisions.

“Manufacturers often update the software in their machines for a new banknote design or to make authentication improvements,” said the Bank, announcing the publication of the standards. “If you are a business owner or operate a machine, you can check you are using the correct version of software or firmware.” The Bank of England noted that it tests sample models, not every machine that is manufactured.
