Zurich Insurance Group, the SIX Swiss Exchange-listed insurer, is expanding its South American operations with a new insurance IT system in Colombia that will handle property and casualty business. The system was built by Accenture, which had previously helped Zurich Insurance Group implement similar systems in Venezuela and Brazil. The new system is based on Danish software firm TIA Technology’s core insurance solution. It supports underwriting, policy administration and claims management for the insurer’s property and casualty personal and commercial lines and is integrated with the company’s regional IT systems. Accenture’s Juan Antonio García, managing director for financial services in Colombia, said that Accenture sourced a mix of testers for the implementation of the system from Brazil, Colombia, and from Accenture’s Indian delivery centre. “The Brazilian and Colombian testers designed the business requirements, defined the testing strategy, and performed user acceptance tests. Their Indian counterparts helped in the implementation of auxiliary modules, as well as contributing to the execution of test plans across all functionalities,” said García. Because Zurich Insurance’s Colombia operations were new, they had to go through a regulatory approval process to obtain a license to operate. This required a demonstration that the software was audited and compliant to local laws, said García.
